JCDC/NGJ Visual Arts Competition Opens Sunday 15 August 2010

The JCDC/NGJ National Visual Arts Competition & Exhibition 2010 will open this Sunday at the National Gallery of Jamaica in Kingston. As part of the ceremony, 153 awards will be presented to 103 artists.

Members of the public are invited to vote for their favourite piece in the show. The artwork receiving the most votes will be awarded a cash prize and a trophy.

The exhibition will continue till August 28 after which a portion of the exhibition will travel to three other locations across the island. The opening function will take place on the lawns behind the NGJ building and the exhibition will be located in the NGJ’s ground exhibition galleries.

The National Visual Arts Competition and Exhibition is an annual collaboration between the NGJ and the JCDC and is part of the annual Independence Festival.

This project is sponsored by the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF), Claro and the Urban Development Corporation (UDC).

Admission to the ceremony is free. Guests at Silver Sands, Jamaica villas and Jamaica apartments can travel to Kingston and see the works of the local artists.
