Jamaica's Montego Bay Convention Centre To Open In January 2011

Jamaica continues to enhance its tourism infrastructure, the latest addition being the development of the Montego Bay Convention Centre which will make its highly-anticipated debut in January 2011. The Convention Centre is located in close proximity to major Jamaica accommodations, attractions and the Sangster International Airport.

Tourism is the leading industry in Jamaica and going beyond the traditional markets, the nation is investing heavily in health and sports tourism. It also aims to fortify Jamaica's position in the thriving meetings and conventions market and hence the new strategically located convention centre.

While attending business meetings at the new convention centre, it should not be forgotten that it is very close to Montego Bay and its many beautiful beaches and visitor attractions. When Samantha Brown (TravelChannelTV) visited Montego Bay, she discovered a variety of fun adventures:

Commenting on the new centre, John Lynch, Jamaica's Director of Tourism said: "The Convention Centre will expand Jamaica's capacity to accommodate groups of all sizes and ultimately boost our standing as a meetings Mecca for convention groups."

Salient features of the Convention Centre

  • Excess of 50,000 square feet of exhibition space

  • Over 20,000 square feet of banquet facility

  • More than 11,000 square feet of meeting space

The first to experience the centre will be the attendees at the Caribbean Marketplace 2011, the premier tourism marketing event of the Caribbean region, showcasing the best of the Caribbean, which is scheduled to take place between 16 and 18 January 2011.

A wide range of Jamaica accommodation options including private villas and cottages will provide the infrastructure necessary to host large-scale events.
