Jamaica - Travel Weekly's Best Caribbean Destination 2010

Jamaica was voted the leading beach destination in the Caribbean in the World Travel Awards Ceremony held at London in November. Further consolidating its position, it has now been voted as the ‘Best Caribbean Destination’ at the annual Travel Weekly Readers' Choice Awards at the New York Plaza Hotel in Manhattan.

The island outpaced close competitors Aruba, Barbados, the Dominican Republic, St Lucia, and the US Virgin Islands to walk away with the coveted award for the second consecutive year.

This is the third major award that the country has picked up in the last three months. Aside from the two mentioned above, it was named 'Best Honeymoon Destination' and 'Best Tourist Board' by the Canadian travel industry in November.

Elated by the awards, tourism director, John Lynch said that they were proof enough that the destination and the JTB (Jamaica Tourist Board) were doing really well.

The recognition by the Travel Weekly, the leading US business-to-business travel industry publication reaching some 150,000 readers in the industry each week, is all the more gratifying owing to the fact that the United States is the largest market for tourism in Jamaica.

The awards are a testimony to the ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of Jamaica’s tourist products with continuous development and expansion of its attraction offerings.
