We faced two challenges at the house this visit: 1) There are not screen doors at the entrance and side door which need to be left open to provide the breeze needed for comfortable air flow considering only bedrooms are air conditioned. Hopefully screen doors will be installed before our next visit. 2) The neighbor's cat now seems to live at the house and has become an interior occupant hard to keep off furniture inside and out. This was a problem for a guest with a cat allergy, problem with cat smell and fleas. Once informed, the staff made great effort to help us keep the cat out of the house and off furniture, though a challenge throughout each day. The installation of screen doors will help solve the problem of the cat freely entering the house as well as lizards, mosquitoes and other pests.
- Montego Bay Captain Karrinton Lyons regularly provides fresh caught fish whenever we wanted and it was well prepared by Ms. Sham. We also enjoy going out with him on his boat to fish ourselves - lots of fun with a local, licensed fisherman.
- Best to communicate your menu choice as far in advance of your stay as some fresh items not always in season or available.
- The long overdue renovation of the pier and gazebo is now complete and a pleasure to watch sunsets. Be careful, the concrete is slippery and the step down from the gazebo does not have the safety yellow paint band, reflectors or other visual indication of a step so we saw too many mishaps at the step. The Association will need to remedy to prevent further injuries.
- Being such a far distance from venues of entertainment and activities, guests and residents rely on the Association to provide the small bit of entertainment we've experienced over the years but we and others at Silver Sands sadly found the common area by the beach like a ghost town. The restaurant was not open, the bar closed early and none of the usual evening entertainment. We were told live entertainment and activities now only during the busy season. This should be communicated clearly at the website.
- Typically the grounds of Silver Sands are well maintained. We were surprised to find more trash than usual along the beach side during our daily walks throughout the community. This was a first in the many years of visiting Silver Sands and hope it improves before our next visit.
