Jamaica Tourism Awareness Week To Launch High Season

Jamaica launched its tourism awareness week on 13 December 2010 to officially start the winter tourist season which began on Wednesday. The week will be observed under the theme: “Tourism is our mainstay; Everyone has a role to play”.

The week’s activities will focus on the contribution of the tourism sector and the role it has played in the development of the country’s economy.

The activities for the week commenced with a church service at the Port Antonio Baptist Church in Portland, followed Tuesday by a meeting of the Minister of Tourism, Edmund Bartlett and Airport Authority staff.

On Wednesday the tourism minister will participate in a brief commemoration ceremony at the Sangster International Airport.

The week’s activities will conclude with the Grand Craft Market and Concert on Saturday, December 18 in Ocho Rios.

Meanwhile restoration work is underway to repair the beaches that were affected by Tropical Storm Nicole including the popular Seven Miles Beach in Negril, which was significantly affected by the strong waves. Bartlett is optimistic that the beaches would be refurbished before the tourists begin to arrive.

Private stakeholders including Jamaican rentals too are going out of their way to woo the tourists. In fact, private Jamaican villas, cottages and Jamaican apartments are in high demand from visitors looking for personalized experiences coupled with great services and hospitality. If you still haven’t booked your Jamaican accommodation, you can browse through our listings of Silver Sands Villas to find an accommodation that is within your taste and budget.
