Reggae Sumfest 2011 Launched at Devon House

Reggae Sumfest opened with a high-energy start on 13th July at Devon House. The performances at the19th staging of the 'greatest reggae festival on Earth' gave those in attendance an idea of what to expect. The festival takes place between July 17-23 in Catherine Hall, Montego Bay.

The launch saw performances by the likes of Tifa, who did a rendition of Bob Marley's I Wanna Love You in recognition of Digicel's theme 'Inspired by Legends'. The artist then went on to Move Yuh Body and her verse from Swaggin' (WTF!) before making way for I-Octane.

The performance by I-Octane got a huge response from the audience who apart from popular songs also gave a taste of things to come by doing a song from his upcoming album Crying For the Nation.

The launch also saw dances that gave people a history lesson, reminiscing on the styles of the past and ending with the most recent.

The launch of the festival was an impressive affair which saw people mingling and enjoying themselves to the music before the actual proceedings began. Scenes of R. Kelly and Nicki Minaj performing overseas were met with great appreciation by those eager to see the R&B and rap star perform.

Pepsi's Carlo Redwood expressed how proud the brand was to be involved with Reggae Sumfest. Executive Director of Summerfest Productions, organisers of Reggae Sumfest, Johnny Gourzong, also showed a video reflecting last year's successful staging and also showing what the audience could expect this year.

Visitors staying at Jamaica villas and Jamaica Apartments can book their transportation and tickets at the Silver Sands office.
