Jamaica Welcomes One Millionth Visitor in August 2010

On August 28, 2010, Jamaica welcomed its one millionth visitor who arrived in the country’s Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay. The couple, Aaron and Angela Wilson arrived in Montego Bay onboard AirTran from Baltimore to celebrate their second wedding anniversary.

John Lynch, Jamaica’s Director of Tourism welcomed the guests to the island where visitor accommodation includes Jamaica villas, cottages, and apartments as well as the usual hotels and resorts. Expressing his happiness on the occasion, he said that the island was able to achieve its milestone despite the negative publicity that was generated for the arrest of a suspected drug dealer in Kingston.

Speaking on the occasion, he said “We congratulate our lucky couple who are visiting Jamaica to celebrate their wedding anniversary as Jamaica remains a popular wedding and honeymoon destination, and the frequency of airlift from the United States makes it more accessible and affordable to visit Jamaica.”

Tad Hutcheson, vice president of marketing and sales at AirTran Airways said “We are proud to be the airline that delivered the island’s one millionth visitor.” He further added: “This is a great milestone for AirTran to be a part of, seeing that we have been offering service to this remarkable destination for six months. We look forward to a successful partnership with Jamaica as we continue to allow travelers to experience the island’s vibrant and welcoming culture.”

Jamaica continues to live up to its reputation of being the most sought out tourist destination in the Caribbean. However, it is not just the island’s varied landscape that is a magnet for the tourists – the warm hospitality provided by the Jamaica rentals is an added bonus.
