Jamaica Awarded Best Beach Destination In The World

Jamaica shone bright in the sparkling World Travel Awards held on 7 November at London’s Grosvenor House, walking away with no less than six awards in the world category, one of them being the World’s Leading Beach Destination award.

The awards have been hailed as the ‘Oscars of the Travel Industry’ by the Wall Street Journal and are recognised worldwide as the ultimate travel accolade.

The award ceremony marked a grand finale of a year-long search to find the very best travel companies in the world, and follows heats in Dubai, Johannesburg, Antalya, Delhi and Jamaica.

The nominations for the events featured 5,000 companies in 1,000 categories across 162 countries. The winners were selected based on the online votes received from thousands of industry professionals and consumers worldwide.

Jamaica emerged as a popular destination winning the following awards in the world category:

  • World's Leading Beach Destination - Montego Bay

  • World's Leading Cruise Destination - Jamaica

  • Worlds Leading Villa - Round Hill Hotel and Villas

  • World's Leading All Inclusive Company - Sandals

  • World's Leading Family All Inclusive - Beaches Negril

  • World's Leading Caribbean Attractions Company - Island Routes

Usain Bolt, three-time World and Olympic gold medallist, also won the coveted Face of Travel Award, sprinting ahead of heavy weights like Arnold Schwarzenegger, David Beckham, Kevin Spacey, Rafael Nadal, Kevin Costner and Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickenson. His role in Jamaica’s advertising campaign ‘Once You Go You Know’ greatly boosted the island’s tourism profile.

Regarding the leading beach destination in the world award, the honour went to Montego Bay, the second largest town in Jamaica after Kingston. However, guests at Silver Sands villas are of the view that the pristine Silver Sands beach can give the beaches in Montego Bay a run for their money.

Tourism is the island’s main industry and the locals are upbeat about the interest that these awards have generated for the island and are hopeful that they will see an increase in the turn out of visitors during the approaching High Season that begins from 16 December. It's not too late to book your next winter's vacation with Mysilversands.
