Jamaican Airports Role In Tourism
Jamaica yesterday launched the week long celebrations 'Tourism is our mainstay: Everyone has a role to play' to officially welcome the high season and focus on the travel products of the country. As part of the celebrations, various stockholders who have played a pivotal role in improving the tourism infrastructure are also being acknowledged.
On 13 December 2010, the Tourism Minister, Hon. Edmund Bartlett highlighted the pivotal role played by stakeholders at the country's two international airports- the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) in Kingston and the Sangster International Airport, in Montego Bay - in enhancing the island's tourism product.
Speaking at an appreciation function for staff and officials at the NMIA, Mr. Bartlett emphasised the role played by these airports and said that they not only served as entry points to the island but were also the first ‘point of contact’ with the locals. In fact they formed the first and lasting impression of what the visitors could expect in terms of services and hospitality in Jamaica.
He also said the services offered at the airports could put the visitors at ease and dissipate any anxieties they could have on coming to a new destination.
The minister summed up by saying that the tourists brought in the wealth that could help to improve the well-being of the people and so it was in their interest to ensure that the visitors had a comfortable, safe and a memorable stay on the island.
Private players such as Jamaican rental communities too are going out of the way to tempt the holidaymakers with the best rates, services and hospitality. Silver Sands Villas, Jamaica is offering car seats in their transportation facilities to cater to the safety of the small children. In fact, Silver Sands Jamaica is the only rental community providing this facility and it is small caring thoughts like this that can make all the difference.
