The Natural Choice For The More Environmentally Conscious Traveller

Once you see Rum Jetty, you know that you have arrived at a special house, one that is in a class by itself. The gorgeous private white sand beach is an important feature of the property, but you will soon discover that this house which dates back to the 1800s oozes charm and character, and its design, construction and operation as vacation accommodation are environmentally conscious.

  • Almost all furniture, fixtures, fittings, handles & kitchen units made by local carpenters using locally sourced hardwood timber or cane.
  • Effective natural ventilation - all rooms cross ventilated & designed to enjoy plentiful day & night breezes.
  • Solar water heating, including photo voltaic pumps.
  • 100% line drying of clothes & linens - no tumble dryer.
  • Low-energy lighting throughout.
  • Water & energy saving notices in all bathrooms: 'wash-if-you-need-to' scheme for towels & bed linens.
  • Composting of kitchen & garden waste.
  • On-site seaweed composting (bury beneath beach, decomposes quickly back to sand).
  • Natural, chemical-free swimming - in the shallow sea directly in front of your own private beach - no need for a swimming pool; no chemicals, no energy expended.
